Baby Hair Care Tips
Many new mums are unsure about the best way to wash and brush their baby’s hair. Below are some top tips to keep your baby’s hair clean and tangle free!
We don’t recommend you wash your baby’s hair every day. Particularly with newborns, there’s just no need. Aim for a quick, light shampoo when you bathe your baby, which doesn’t need to be more often than a couple times a week because over washing can strip away the natural oils of the scalp and leave hair dry, brittle, and frizzy. Always use a mild, tearless, baby shampoo. If your baby has a problem with cradle cap or sweating, which is quite common in newborns, you might want to wash every other day, in this case your doctor can advise you.
When washing, be gentle when you massage the baby shampoo into your baby’s scalp. A too-brisk scalp massage can stress hair follicles and speed up hair loss or breakage.
After washing pat hair dry gently with a soft towel.
Comb your baby’s hair with a natural soft-bristle brush or a wide-toothed baby comb or brush that won’t snag on tangles or pull your baby’s hair. Check out the baby brush set from our shop!
Avoid headbands or ponytails that pull your baby’s hair back too tightly, this can damage the hair.
